About Our Camp

The Premier Basketball Camp at Moore Catholic is an instructional environment for serious players, both girls & boys, grades 4 through 12. The camp runs from 8 AM to 3 PM. All coaches are experts in the game and are currently employed by quality high school and college programs. Sessions are limited, guaranteeing individual, personalized instruction. The camp offers instruction in ball handling, floor balance, transition, shooting, rebounding, shot blocking, conditioning, defense and various fine points in game approach and situation basketball. Video breakdown and instruction will also be incorporated. The campers will work hard and given such, the camp is for those players serious about the game they love. Guest lecturers will provide special insight into various aspects of the game. The camp will offer opportunities to get to know SIHSL coaches and peers in an environment which promotes overall skill and basketball IQ improvement.

The 2011 camp is thrilled to again have KYLE McALARNEY as a full time instructor. Kyle, in most people’s opinion, the best basketball player in Staten Island history, adds great value to this year’s camp players. Through his demonstrations and instruction, players can learn from someone who played at the highest of college levels and who continues to play professionally. A former First Team Big East All Star, and now a professional player overseas, Kyle’s enthusiasm and skills will surely rub off on each camper.

Staff
The three top objectives for players choosing a camp are Staff, Staff and Staff. The class of coaches at PCMC are proven, experienced and hands on. There is no better group of BASKETBALL instructors in the area. There will be no kids teaching kids at PCMC.
Limited Number of Campers
With an objective to accept only a limited number of applicants, the camp provides hands on, personalized instruction to students who are serious about their craft.

From a full time, on site trainer to top college & high school athlete helpers, PCMC serves every need of each camper.
Report Cards
Each camper leaves with a report card that assesses their skills but more importantly provides reference material for improvement.
Facilities
The camp is equipped with a two indoor and two state of the art outdoor full courts. Air conditioned lecture rooms, eating facilities, locker rooms and bathrooms are spotless and spacious. There is no better facility to improve your game.
Chalkboard
Camp sections will include skull sessions and breakdown from our staff of experts to allow each camper a ‘view’ to hone and improve their craft.
Premier Camps at Moore Catholic is available on a Limited, First Come Basis. Applications are being accepted NOW. A limited number of campers is a vital ingredient to meeting our objective to be the elite camp in the area.

About Our Staff

Tony Petosa – Head Basketball Coach - College of Staten Island

A former All Star and CUNY Player of the Year, Coach Petosa has headed the Dolphins program for 20 years, capturing various tournament and three CUNY championships. His teams are known for their suffocating defensive schemes and exciting, fundamentally sound transitional offense.

Tony Rafaniello – Head Boys Basketball Coach - Moore Catholic HS

Coach Raf brings over 30 years of head coaching experience, capturing championships at both Msgr. Farrell and New Dorp, the only coach to do so at two different schools. With over 400 lifetime victories, Coach Raf is the winningest coach in Staten Island basketball history, sending numerous players on to compete at the college level. His teams are known for outstanding man-to-man defense and unselfish team play.

Joe Coscia – Head Boys Basketball Coach - Susan Wagner HS

Coach Coscia has headed the Susan Wagner Basketball Program for the past 20 years. Prior to that, Joe coached at New Dorp HS for 7 years. As the winningest coach in Susan Wagner basketball history, Coach Coscia has developed numerous players who moved on to success at the division I, II and III college level. His teams are known for fundamentally sound play both offensively and defensively. He is intense, focused, dedicated, demanding and loyal.

Rich Postiglione – Head Girls Basketball Coach - Moore Catholic HS

After 17 years as head coach of the Maverick boys program. Rich is a twice New York Daily News Coach of the Year winner known for his knowledge and passion for the game. Coach Post has the most wins in Moore Catholic basketball history. Having taken over the girls program in 2008-2009, Coach Post and the Mavs come off two consecutive “over 20” win seasons having captured back to back Class A CHSSA Archdiocese championships. His teams are well known for their tenacity, defensive ability, discipline and exciting style of play.

Scott Welle – Head Varsity Basketball Coach - St. Joseph By The Sea HS

Coach Welle heads the young and talented Viking program and is in his fourth year as a camp staffer. Bringing several years of head coaching experience at St. Joe’s, Coach Welle’s teams are known for their toughness and disciplined style of play. St. Joe’s is always marked as a “better be ready to play” game on every coach’s schedule.

Kyle McAlarney – Former Big East Point Guard and 1st Team Big East All Star

With too many accomplishments to name, Staten Island players will reap the rewards of being instructed by, who many feel, is the greatest basketball player ever to call Staten Island his home. The camp is thrilled to again having received a full, all day, every day commitment from Kyle. His instruction, demonstrations and game approach will leave each player motivated to work toward being the very best player that they can be.

      • Campers play 30 minute games in a live setting. Classroom lectures provide the players with X & O breakdown and the necessary insight in becoming a complete player.
    • 11:30–12:00 Skill Competitions/Situational Schemes

      • Players rotate from station to station (15 minutes) with coaches providing instruction and technique in various skill aspects of the game.
    • 2:00–3:00 Split Groups – Camp Games/Drills & Classroom Instruction
      • Breakdown by head coaches displaying “views” to players in improving skills and their understanding of game strategy and situational basketball.
    • 3:00 Day Dismissal

General PCMC Information

  • Attendance will be taken each morning at the start of camp. Calls will be made timely to any individual registered but not present.
  • The camp maintains a full time/on site certified trainer to care for all needs of our players.
  • Applications include specific dates of each session, costs, emergency contact requirements and waiver/medical forms. No incomplete application will be processed. After processing, a confirmation will be mailed to you, reserving your place at Premier Camps.
  • Each camper is required to bring a bag lunch with his/her name printed clearly on the bag. Refrigeration is available. Drinks will be provided at minimal cost to the campers.
  • The camp is certified by and registered with the NYC Department of Health.

Each Camper will be provided
  • Shirt to be worn throughout the week. (Extra shirts are available at minimal cost.
  • A locker for the entire week. Master locks are suggested to secure each camper’s belongings. Players will have the option to leave contents in a secured locker overnight.
  • Individualized certificate, awards & report card at each session end.

Facilities

Courts

Equipped with a main court, an air conditioned 2nd main court and two state of the art SportsCourt surfaced outdoor courts, the players are provided all the room and quality playing surfaces to learn and excel.

Locker Rooms

A full sized high school locker (with player’s name) is provided for the week to each player, allowing a secure daytime & overnight personal storage facility. Players will enjoy and take pride in their personalized locker.

Film Room

An oversized, air conditioned film room allows coaches and players to break down game tapes and conduct skull sessions in a professional, comfortable environment.

Athletic Field

A state of the art field turfed athletic field is on site for special stamina and agility drills.

Equipment

All relevant equipment from quality basketballs, to weighted balls to jump ropes to tape machines, to TVs to scoreclocks, etc. are provided to allow a professional, quality experience for each player.

Replenishment Stations

Drink stations are provided throughout the camp, serving cool water and poweraid to ensure that all players remain hydrated and ready to go.

Full Trainer's Quarters

Air conditioned office is on site for our full time trainer to handle all injuries or illnesses. The office is equipped with a restroom and telephone lines for both privacy and to handle any communication needs. The office also maintains refrigeration to house any parent approved player medications

Cafeteria

A large, clean and camaraderie filled lunch room where players can relax, eat and communicate with their peers and coaches. Full room refrigeration is available daily.

Rest Rooms

Clean, private girls & boys rest rooms are available and supervised throughout the day.
